Ouija boards are flat boards with printed letters, numbers and other symbols. It is sometimes called spirit boards or talking boards because spiritualists, clairvoyants and psychics make use of the board to talk to spirits. Because of its popularity as a medium to communicate with souls, the Catholic Church and other related religious institutions have branded it to be a work of the devil and are prohibited to be used by its flowers. Cynics and non-believers of the paranormal and supernatural though, think that the board is nothing but a joke. The messages spelled out are just the unconscious movements of the people using the board.
Performing ouija is very simple. All you need is a ouija board, a planchette (a heart shaped wood
which will indicate the letters that will spell the answers to the questions asked; a coin or a glass are sometimes used), and at least two participants, one of which will be the medium (the one officially assigned to ask the questions.
It is advisable to perform the ouija at night. It is said that during the night, there is less interference with communicating with the spirits during the night. The participants are required to sit on the floor and place the board on their laps. Some practices prohibit the use of a table although on some other parts of the world, there is leniency on this rule.
The users then should place the fingers of both hands on the planchette or pointer. Purposely move the pointer around the board once or twice. While doing this, the medium should announce that the session should only allow a positive experience and all negative energies are not welcome.
Start the session with simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’ questions. Don’t expect to get answers right away. It takes time for the board to actually work. When it does start to answer, be sure to thank the board or spirits for communicating with you. After this, you can start asking more important questions. Make sure though that you don’t ask any stupid questions that will only cause you to worry needlessly. Remember also not to ask the spirits to prove that they are real or are present in the room. It will only cause distress.
During the session, make sure that someone, other than the two users of the board will write down the answers. This means that during the session, the people in the room aer not limited to the two users of the board.
Once the session ends, make sure to place the planchette to the goodbye message, remove your hands from the planchette and close the board. Maintain control of the board. If it starts giving rude or vulgar answers to your questions, it might be better to just close the board.
The answers you might get may not always be true. Don’t believe every answer you get to be accurate. Just like any other source of information, it is not always factual. It is also very important for you to remember that it’s just a board sold popularly as a toy. Although spiritualists, clairvoyants and psychics make use of it to communicate with the spirit world, there is a possibility that it’s not real or the person claiming to be a psychic isn’t really a psychic.
